I frequently ride the bus, and it is rare to see young families. I think that I know why. One day, I saw a young woman with an infant and stroller trying to get on the bus. The bus driver did not kneel the bus for her to get her stroller on, despite the fact that she was carrying her infant. Instead, the driver lectured her on not collapsing her heavily laden stroller. Other passengers and I helped the woman with her stroller to board and secure a seat. Speaking of seating, I think that they should be included in the reserved seating in front along with the physically disabled and elderly.

Must be a Veolia bus. Was one of the following routes? 383, 392, 240, 243. 37, 142, 18, or 4?

Was the buses the 6000 series with a known defect that doesn't let their bus kneel?

I'm surprised that they didn't with hold FTA funding from Capital Metro since this has been a known issue throughout the years, but then again former Capital Metro management by the name of Aida Douglas steers the Dallas region of the FTA, so inside connections allow for skirting of the rules.

I expect the IRS investigation on Capitol Hill to be resolved before the FTA even looks at this. SAD.

Will Will, It was the 18. I did not realize that not all the buses kneel. Good to know.

That's a VEOLIA route. Use a cell phone camera, record it, and send a copy to the Federal Transit Administration. It's time to drop the hammer on Capital Metro!!! The buses are required by the federal transit administration to be 100 percent accessible. Capital Metro believes in cutting corners.

No they should not be included in the front seat. It's a choice to have a child/carry a stroller. It's not a choice to have a medical condition (be transit dependent specifically because of the condition) or age).

This isn't a matter of kindness. It's recognizing that disabilities and/or the medications to treat them can/do cause involuntary motor cordination problems--as does aging. Comparing an armful of groceries or a kid to this is very sheltered and naive.

All of Capital Metro's local route transit buses kneel, and any time a passenger needs the bus kneeled, they simply need to request it from the operator. Passengers with a stroller are required to remove the child from the stroller and fold the stroller before they board. This is because it is safer for the child to travel on a moving bus in the parents’ arms, and the stroller needs to be able to be stored out of the aisle. The priority seating area at the front of the bus is governed by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which requires that those seats be set as priority for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
