MetroRapid Route 801 North Lamar/South Congress

A new MetroRapid route will travel from Tech Ridge to Southpark Meadows seven days a week. The new service will offer frequency every 10-12 minutes during peak hours on weekdays and every 12-20 minutes at other times, on weekends the service will run every 20-30 minutes. Route 801 service will operate at the following times: 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekdays, 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Saturdays and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays.

The service will feature new, larger vehicles and technology that will sync with stoplights to hold the light green, helping vehicles stay on time. Riders will be able to board on three separate doors, which means less time waiting at stations and a faster trip. There will also be digital signage at stations, displaying real-time next-bus arrival information. Through downtown, between Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Cesar Chavez, MetroRapid vehicles will travel on Guadalupe and Lavaca. Route 801 will stop at stations spaced approximately a half mile apart.

1L North Lamar/South Congress and 101 N. Lamar/S. Congress Ltd.

Route 801 would replace existing service along Route 1L North Lamar/South Congress and Route 101 North Lamar/South Congress that travels along the same corridor.

The proposal would replace Route 101 North Lamar/South Congress with a longer service offered by MetroRapid Route 801. Route 801 will operate at the following times: 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekdays, 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Saturdays and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays and would provide service to most stops along the existing Route 101.

Local stops along the existing Route 1L North Lamar/South Congress would maintain service by the following routes: MetroRapid Route 801, Route 1 South Congress/Metric, Route 201 Southpark Meadows and the new 275 North Lamar Feeder. The proposal would replace Route 1L North Lamar/South Congress due to duplicate service present along the same corridor.

1M North Lamar/South Congress

Route 1M North Lamar/South Congress would be renamed Route 1 South Congress/Metric and would maintain the same routing, stops, frequency, days of operation and span of service.

275 North Lamar Feeder

A new route, 275 North Lamar Feeder, would offer service from Tech Ridge to the North Lamar Transit Center and provide service to stops along the northern portion of Route 1L North Lamar/South Congress, between Howard Lane and Research Boulevard. Service would operate every 30 minutes, seven days a week, from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on weekdays, 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Routes 7 Duval/Dove Springs, 17 Cesar Chavez and 20 Manor/Riverside would be realigned from Congress Avenue to Guadalupe/Lavaca in accordance with Service Plan 2020, improving access to the new MetroRapid Route 801, and utilizing downtown transit priority lanes—facilitating service through the area.

If the proposal is approved to shift the routes to Guadalupe/Lavaca, riders would still be able to transfer to other routes downtown and frequency would remain the same.

In order to improve system efficiency, the proposal would eliminate The University of Texas' two lowest performing routes: CR Cameron Road and WL Wickersham Lane.

Students can migrate from CR/WL UT Shuttles to comparable service along mainline routes that offer expanded schedule hours and days of service: Riders along the CR Shuttle Route would continue having service from the Northeast Austin area to the UT campus along Route 37 Colony Park/Windsor Park, similar to CR Route. In addition, riders in the St. Johns area would maintain transit access by riding Route 7 Duval/Dove Springs.
