Capital Metro is reviewing service to make it work even better. Help us shape the future of bus service by sharing your feedback this March.

The proposed changes for June 2015 are designed to provide more frequent bus service and expand service while maintaining system efficiency. The proposed service would increase trip frequency along five Local routes, provide new bus service to the Loyola area, increase service to the H-E-B Mueller via Route 37, remove the Merrilltown Loop along Route 243 and realign Route 271 to better serve Del Valle residents

The proposal will go before the Capital Metro Board of Directors on March 23. If approved, the changes would take effect Sunday, June 7, 2015.

Capital Metro proposes increasing all-day frequency on five Local high-demand routes, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays. Currently, these routes operate every 20-30 minutes or greater during midday hours. The change would create more reliable bus service and help reduce wait times at stops.

Capital Metro would also look at increasing frequency on additional routes in the future.

In partnership with the Travis County Commissioner’s Court, Capital Metro proposes beginning service on a new route along Loyola in northeast Austin and Travis County. Service would be available seven days a week. The new route would offer stops between the Springdale Shopping Center and the Mobile Loaves and Fishes Community First! Village. The Northeast Flex Route would also connect with Barbara Jordan Elementary; Overton Elementary; and the Wentworth, Colony Park and Woodland Hills neighborhoods. A major transfer point would be accessible at the Springdale H-E-B, connecting to Routes 20 Manor/Riverside, 37 Colony Park/Windsor Park and 323 Anderson. The proposed service changes would result in a minor expansion of the MetroAccess ADA service area.

In order to provide additional transit access to the Mueller H-E-B, Route 37 would be realigned to Berkman Drive and Barbara Jordan Boulevard. A new stop would be made between Barbara Jordan Boulevard and 51st Street, allowing transfers with Route 320 St. Johns. Route 37 would no longer make midday trips to FirstWorkers, the city of Austin Day Labor Center, located along the southbound frontage road on IH-35. Riders may continue to access FirstWorkers via Route 10 South First/Red River and Route 320 St. Johns.

Due to low demand, Capital Metro proposes adjusting Route 243 to remove midday service on Merrilltown Drive. The route would continue to operate on Wells Branch Parkway and Howard Lane. The proposed service changes would result in a minor reduction of the MetroAccess ADA service area.

Due to area resident requests, Capital Metro proposes realigning Route 271 to better serve Del Valle. The route would be moved from Highway 71 and Ross Road, to Highway 130 and Pearce Lane. Capital Metro would maintain service to the three existing stops serving the Del Valle Independent School District with no changes to current travel time or frequency.
